The Falkirk Wheel
The day the last piece of the heavy lifting was done on the Wheel, the west caisson or gondola. The Webcam area of this archive shows pictures of the rest of the wheel being lifted into place in the days leading up to the 22nd August.
The above panorama of the site is made of 3 images stitched together, and shows the site just before the last caisson was raised into place.
The first 2 pictures are from the south, showing the new part of the Union Canal partially filled with rainwater, The aqueduct remains dry.
Next 7 general shots of the site from the Forth & Clyde Canal towpath, the 230ft crane used to erect the main wheel elements dominates the site.
Finally a series of 11 shots of the gondola lift itself.
